HOW WE HELP
The Bookworm Bunch Virtual Reading Enrichment
Rediscover the joy of stories in a playful, small group setting.
Does your child avoid books or feel stressed by the very idea of reading? The Bookworm Bunch is our virtual reading enrichment club designed for children ages 7-10. This is a space where children can start enjoying books again through immersive read-alouds, relaxed group discussions, and hands-on creative challenges.
Each 60-minute virtual group session is designed to spark creativity, critical thinking, and comprehension in a social, supportive environment. We keep our groups intentionally small—limited to just 4 children—so that every student has the space to participate, share their ideas, and receive support.
Live small-group sessions, creative story challenges, and a focus on building a lasting love of reading.
Each Bookworm Bunch session is $25 per child.
We provide a simple list of household items needed for our hands-on activities before each session.

Help Your Child Become More Confident in Themselves and Their Schoolwork
Nearly 65% of children fall behind a "proficient" level of literacy by the time they reach the 4th grade! If your child is struggling with reading and writing, they are not alone. We are here to help restore their sense of accomplishment and empower them to try and achieve new ways of learning.
How do I know if my child truly needs specialized reading support?
Every child develops at their own pace, but there are clear indicators that a child may benefit from targeted intervention. You might notice your child frequently relying on guessing when they encounter an unfamiliar word, reading in a very slow or choppy manner, or becoming increasingly frustrated and avoidant during reading tasks. If your child struggles with naming letters, identifying sounds, or has received feedback from school about limited progress, a professional assessment can provide the clarity you need to move forward.
How is the Personalized Reading Support Program different from traditional tutoring centers?
Most traditional tutoring centers focus on "homework help" or reviewing what was taught in class that day. While this can be helpful for some, it doesn't address the underlying foundational gaps that cause reading struggles in the first place. Our program is a specialized intervention. We use the Science of Reading to explicitly teach the mechanics of language, ensuring your child builds the strong foundations necessary for independent reading and spelling. We don't just help them keep up; we help them catch up and excel.
Is virtual reading support as effective as in-person instruction?
Yes! In fact, many students thrive in the virtual environment. At Sound Mind Learning, your child will not be sitting passively watching a screen. Our sessions are highly interactive and multisensory. We use digital tools that allow students to actively respond, practice skills, and engage with the teacher in real-time. This format allows us to serve families in The Woodlands, TX, and across the country with the same high level of expertise and personal connection.
What does a typical 45-minute Reading Support Session look like?
Each session is a carefully planned balance of explicit instruction and engaging practice. We begin with a review of previously learned skills to strengthen memory, followed by the explicit teaching of a new, targeted reading skill. We incorporate guided practice opportunities and use multisensory techniques like arm tapping and word building to make the learning stick. Every session also includes integrated social-emotional support to ensure your child feels encouraged and confident throughout the process.
How long will it take to see measurable progress in my child’s reading?
Progress is as unique as the child themselves. Some families notice a shift in confidence and foundational skills within just a few weeks of consistent instruction. For others, especially those with more significant gaps or dyslexia, it may take a little longer to see substantial academic breakthroughs. Our data-driven approach means we are constantly monitoring progress and adjusting our learning plans to ensure your child is always moving forward at a pace that is right for them.
Do you accept educational scholarships or outside funding?
Yes! We are committed to making high-quality reading intervention accessible. Sound Mind Learning is an approved vendor for the PDSES (Texas) and ESA (Arizona) scholarship programs. If you are using these funds, please let us know during your initial inquiry so we can provide the necessary documentation for your records.
Targeted, One-on-One Intervention
Our flagship 1:1 virtual program is designed for children who require high-intensity support to close foundational literacy gaps. This is not "homework help"; it is a comprehensive intervention program that addresses the root causes of reading and spelling difficulties. We focus on the core pillars of literacy: phonological awareness, phonics, reading fluency, and comprehension.
Each 45-minute virtual session is fully customized to your child’s unique needs. We utilize a variety of digital tools and multisensory techniques—such as arm tapping, sky writing, and word building—to make learning concrete and easier to remember. By following a structured literacy approach, we ensure that every skill is explicitly taught and reinforced until mastery is achieved.
We conduct a thorough assessment of your child’s literacy skills. Following this, we’ll have a Zoom call to review the data together. I will present a fully customized learning plan and my recommendations for your child’s personalized program.
Once the plan is in place, we begin our weekly sessions. You’ll receive session summaries after every meeting, keeping you informed of your child’s progress and providing you with optional tools to reinforce learning at home.
Students ages 7-18 who struggle with basic reading, spelling, or writing.
Families typically invest between $30–$50 per session, depending on the level of support recommended after our initial assessment.
We are proud to be an approved vendor for the PDSES (Texas) and ESA (Arizona) scholarship programs, helping make specialized support more accessible to families.
