ABOUT
Meet Michaela Gilman: Your Child’s Reading Interventionist
I believe that every child has the potential to be a skilled reader, but not every child is given the right tools to unlock that potential. I started Sound Mind Learning to create an inclusive learning environment for students; a space where they feel fully supported, where mistakes are celebrated as progress, and where they can finally grow without fear.
The name of this practice is deeply personal; it is inspired by the promise of a "sound mind," one that is grounded in peace and capability rather than the anxiety that so often accompanies learning struggles.
My goal is to support the "whole child." I know that reading struggles don't happen independently; they affect a child's confidence, their social interactions, and their overall happiness.
That’s why I integrate social-emotional support and "brain breaks" into every session. Whether I’m working with a "wiggly" learner who needs a movement break or a student who needs a moment to process their frustration, I adapt my teaching to meet them exactly where they are.

My Approach: Relatability and Rapport
Beyond the certifications and the data, I pride myself on being a teacher who truly connects with her students. I value building a deep rapport with every child I serve. I want to know about their favorite hobbies, their pets, and what makes them laugh. When a child feels seen and valued for who they are outside of their academic struggles, they are far more willing to take the risks necessary to grow inside the classroom.
I am a thorough planner, a passionate advocate, and a lifelong learner who is constantly seeking out new strategies to ensure my students get exactly what they need.
